When I was in high school I read a book called “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” and I remember that one of the mini-chapters was about saving space in your heart for the really bad times in life. Here’s how to save space in your heart for the bad days.
Save Space in Your Heart for the Bad Days
Although in an ideal world we wouldn’t have any bad days and bad things wouldn’t happen to people, it’s usually a good idea to be prepared in case the worst does happen. That’s not to say that you should live in worry and fear, but just be aware.
Sometimes imagining the worst case scenario – as ironic as it sounds – can actually take some of the fear out of a situation. So, if your fears actually came true, what’s the worst that could happen? Is that actually likely to happen? And if it did, would you be able to recover from it?
When it comes down to it, humans are pretty amazing and have overcome just about every situation imaginable throughout history. So even if your worst case scenario were to come true, you might be able to find an example of someone who has successfully overcome that situation and survived to tell the tale.
Or consider this quote floating around Pinterest:
“So far you’ve survived 100% of your bad days. You’re doing great.”
So it might not be pleasant or comfortable if something bad happens, you are absolutely capable of surviving it. If you’re reading this, you’re still here. You’ve survived every bad thing that’s ever happened to you, and you made it through to the other side.
Save a little space in your heart for that inner wellspring of courage and bravery that everyone has, deep down, when confronted with the worst.
When bad days happen, just put one foot in front of the other and just. keep. going.
