How to Use Afformations to Improve Yourself | Self Affirmations

Affirmations (when you say something like, “I am happy and positive”) are nice but sometimes they make us feel like, “Ummm that is definitely not the case in my life right now. I am not happy and positive.”

So it might not really make a difference for you because you just don’t believe what you’re telling yourself. (If they do work for you, that’s awesome! I still like affirmations :)).

A slightly different technique is called “afformations.” Afformations are like affirmations, but in the form of questions.

So instead of saying, β€œI am beautiful,” you would say, β€œWHY AM I SO BEAUTIFUL? :D” It’s silly but it always makes me laugh.

The point of wording it as a question is that it makes your brain start thinking about all the ways that what you’re saying is true.

So if you say, “Why does everyone love me so much?” then you’ll start trying to answer the question and come up with reasons that people love you.

I’m guessing you’re not a narcissist so you don’t need to worry about this being too egotistical or self-absorbed.

Nobody needs to know about your afformations except you. πŸ™‚ If you have low self esteem, it can really help to start thinking about your positive attributes.

Here are some ideas for afformations, depending on what area you need to work on. They’re not meant to sound cocky but just to make you see the good in yourself.

– Why am I beautiful?
– Why do people love me?
– Why am I so smart?
– Why am I amazing?
– Why am I loved?
– Why am I so successful?
