How to Love Your Life

There’s two main steps in the journey toward loving your life.

One, you take steps that get you closer to the reality you actually want. And two, you practice gratitude for what you already have, no matter how far off from your ideal life it currently is.

Of course, it’s a little simpler in theory than it is in practice. ? But the most important things in life are simple when it comes down to it.

So what does this look like? First, you have to know what your life looks like right now. Think about it.

Are you where you want to be? Do you know where you want to be?

You need a starting point and an ending point to figure out what your next steps are. If you’ve never taken the time to think about what you want out of life, think about it now. 🙂

Once you know what you want, you can create a plan to get yourself closer to making the life you love a reality.

But in the meantime? That’s where the gratitude comes in. This is where we love the life we already have, even if it looks nothing like the life we want.

There is always something to be grateful for, no matter how small. Maybe it’s just that you’re alive and are finally thinking about what you want your life to look like. It’s never too late to be what you might have been.

Can you find other good things in your life to be grateful for? Maybe you have good friends or family, or a job that pays the bills. Or maybe you just have hope for a brighter future.

Side Note: Is Gratitude Ever a Bad Thing?

Gratitude has the potential to change your perspective on life and turn around your attitude on a set of potentially unfortunate circumstances. But is it possible that there’s a dark side to gratitude also?

I’m a huge proponent of gratitude – really. Gratitude turns what you have into enough.

But is that ever a bad thing?

Maybe.

What if instead of trying to improve your life, you used gratitude so much that you decided that you should just be grateful for a bad or harmful situation, because it’s better than nothing?

In that case, gratitude wouldn’t be a good thing.

But I think the important distinction to make is that gratitude isn’t the same thing as complacency or “settling.”

It’s possible to be grateful for where you are now while still striving to improve yourself or have a better future.

In fact, that’s probably the best way to use gratitude to improve your life: be grateful for whatever good things are in your life right now, while still trying to better yourself and improve your life.

If you’re in a situation that’s somehow harmful, you definitely don’t have to be grateful for that. You’re allowed to want to change things.

But you can always be grateful for the things in life like simply being alive, the sun rising each morning, and more.

There is always something to be grateful for.

It’s possible to appreciate what you have right now while still working toward the life you really want. The struggle you’re in today is building the foundation for tomorrow’s success.

Good luck.
